Orin Langelle just released this draft video today. Langelle is the Strategic Communications Director and co-founder of Global Justice Ecology Project. Langelle is part of the Coordinating Committee of The Resurgence: 2019 North American Forest & Climate Movement Convergence co-convened by the Indigenous Environmental Network, Global Justice Ecology Project and Shawnee Forest Defense! It is being held in the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois from October 11 through October 14th– culminating on Indigenous People’s Day.

Orin has been a Concerned Photographer and activist for over 50 years documenting the struggles and triumphs of communities impacted by environmental destruction, economic domination and social injustice. North American Forest & Climate Movement Convergence Draws Near as Organizers Announce Keynotes
Carbondale, IL- Almost thirty years after environmentalists won an unprecedented victory that stopped logging in southern Illinois for nearly two decades, activists and grassroots organizations from across the continent are converging there to develop cutting edge strategies targeted at the increasingly urgent climate and deforestation crises.
The Convergence is designed to create a space where long-time and new activists will join with impacted people to create radical and creative ideas for leading edge strategies, on-the-ground actions and powerful networks to carry forward action plans developed at the convergence.

CONFIRMED KEYNOTE SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED BY THE COORDINATING COMMITTEE INCLUDE:
Jayden Foytlin: A 16-yr-old climate justice activist and two-time flood survivor from Deep South Louisiana. She is currently one of 21 plaintiffs in a landmark case with Our Children’s Trust that is suing the U.S. government for its contribution to climate change and climate disaster. Jayden has been highlighted in Vogue, CBS’s 60 Minutes, The Guardian, and other outlets.
Cherri Foytlin: An Afro-Indigenous (Din’e) organizer, writer, speaker, and mother of six who lives in southwest Louisiana. She is the author of Spill It! The Truth About the Deep Horizon Oil Rig Explosion, and regularly contributes to BridgetheGulfProject.org, and other written platforms. In the Spring of 2011, she walked to Washington D.C. from New Orleans (1,243 miles) to educate and call for action regarding the BP Deep Water drilling disaster. More recently, she founded L’eau Est La Vie (Water is Life) Camp and is the heart of the campaign to stop the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. She is also the executive director of Louisiana Rise, an organization dedicated to a just transition for local Louisiana communities. She is also an advisory member for Another Gulf is Possible, the National Poor People’s Campaign, and a national team member for Extinction Rebellion U.S.
Winifridus Overbeek: The International Coordinator of the World Rainforest Movement since January 2011. He travels the world contributing to struggles and political actions of forest-dependent peoples, indigenous, peasants and other communities in the global South. WRM, founded in 1986, is part of a global movement to support struggles that defend the collective rights and self-determination of indigenous peoples and peasant communities who live within their forested territories that have sustained their lives and cultures for generations.
Winnie will speak about the social and ecological impacts of industrial timber plantations, and the struggles by communities globally to take their land back. He will also address the current destruction taking place in Brazil and the Amazon led by Jair Bolsanoro—called the Trump of Latin America. Overbeek also will talk about the Business for Nature carbon pricing and offset schemes that use trees as a false solution to climate change.
