ALERT: Ecological Destruction and Environmental Racism Themes Behind Art Exhibit Closing April 29

This youth activist along with others were forced onto a bus and evicted from the UN Climate Convention in Cancun, Mexico following a youth-led march out of the conference in protest of the exclusion of youth voices from the negotiations about their future. The REDD sign she is holding stands for “reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation,” one of the most controversial issues in the climate change debate–especially among Indigenous Peoples. ¡Buen Vivir! Gallery for Contemporary Art will host a closing reception for Climate Change, System Change, Personal Change on April 29 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Climate Change, System Change, Personal Change includes two interrelated exhibits:
· Black on the Ground, White in the Air, artwork from Buffalo artist Ashley Powell
· Climate Change—Realities and Resistance, photography by international photographers from the Critical Information Collective marking the end of its US debut after hanging at the UN climate summit in Paris in December

Reception: April 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the ¡Buen Vivir! Gallery for Contemporary Art, 148 Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres provided along with live music from classical guitarist Greg Skulicz. For more information and images from the exhibit, visit the exhibit website.
