Mapuche Territory (Chile) 22 December 2004
I’ve been working this past week on a video for Global Justice Ecology Project. The video is primarily about the threat of genetically engineered trees. This was one of my photos that we put in the video. Looking at this I think back to the journey to document logging devastation with Alfredo, Alejandra and Anne. In the time of Pinochet, great lands were stolen by the Chilean government and turned over to the timber industry for industrial tree plantations. The Mapuche population impacted now suffers from more diseases due to the chemicals used on the plantations, water loss, and other continuing inane aspects of colonization. The Mapuche continue to fight to get their lands back.
